At this stage, the number of people that stop playing isn't really the problem for CCP. The problem is that a lot of loyalty and trust have been lost. Those who leave will tell their friends and other gamers, rest assure that gaming sites and forums will write about the new CCP as well. Many of those who stay will have a grudge and relation between players and company will grow worse. Many will reduce the numbers of active accounts.
In the eyes of many players, CCP has changed from being one of the most respected companies to something to they despise. The community and the company isn't "we" any longer. Their word will not be trusted any longer. Even if they bring good news, many will wonder what new greedy scheme they are trying to draw our attention from, or if it's just a play for the masses before they make changes for the worse.
Most players didn't even care about WIS before this patch, now a lot hate it simply because it is forced and because CCP showed us that WIS is all about MT. How many believe that when we get out in the stations, we will somehow be part of the player market? Ambulation isn't about immersion any longer, it isn't about expanding the world, the goal is to create a secondary way to give money to CCP.
True or not, the problem is still how players view it. Both those who stays and those who leaves. You think players are causing a fuss now? Just wait until next time CCP do something the players don't like (even if it is something innocent such as a bug). It will only grow worse. There are so many who lost their love and respect for CCP and they all know that CCP doesn't care because they are happy as long as they get money. This isn't an accident, to trade respect and trust for money is a a choice CCP think is worth while.
It isn't just the usual crowd that is upset. It is all kinds of Eve players. Even some of the hardcore vets that have been here since the start is walking out. I don't believe it will work to be despised by a large part of the community. It sure can't be fun for those who work for CCP to be viewed as people who only have one purpose: take as much money as possible from the players. But here we are. The image of CCP is forever changed and I believe that can only lead to bad things.
